Philanthropic Focus for 2009 - The Montana Pediatric Project

CARING FOR CHILDREN HERE IN MONTANA - St. Vincent Healthcare is embarking on a bold vision for pediatric care. In collaboration with other hospitals and healthcare providers across Montana and the surrounding region, we have established The Montana Pediatric Project - an initiative to improve access to, and the quality of, healthcare for children throughout Montana and beyond. It is only through visionary philanthropy that we will accomplish our quest to provide the highest quality of care to the children of our region.

PEDIATRIC CARE TODAY - There are over a quarter of a million children in the state of Montana and the surrounding region. Our kids are blessed to live in an area of the country that promotes a healthy and active lifestyle, and it is our responsibility to keep it that way - to help them remain in good health so they can grow into healthy adults and live full and active lives. Yet, if they ever get sick, we need to be there to help them get well. While we treat hundreds of pediatric patients from an expansive three-state area, facility and clinical gaps force us to send the sickest kids to out of state dedicated children's hospitals in Denver and Salt Lake City

PROTECTING OUR CHILDREN - St. Vincent Healthcare's pediatric specialists in orthopedics, spine, gastrointestinal, cardiology and urology provide excellent care. We're seeking philanthropic investors who share our vision to enhance our pediatric team and acquire the technology necessary to provide advanced clinical services so pediatric patients can receive care close to home. For kids who are critically ill, this would mean the world to them and their families. A family that is struggling financially would not need to take days from work, often without pay, to travel to a hospital over 500 miles away. Parents would not have to arrange for extended care for their other children while they are out of town tending to their sick child. Parents and children experiencing a medical crisis would be able to have the support of their families and friends close by. And, most importantly, it would mean that a family could remain at their child's bedside, helping to make critical care decisions and simply be there for every moment.

THE VISION The Montana Pediatric Project will create a system of care that supports health needs of our kids 365 days a year. It will:

  • Provide the intensivists and hospitalists needed to support the pediatric specialists already in place at St. Vincent Healthcare.
  • Bring training to remote hospitals on management of pediatric trauma.
  • Provide leading-edge technology, allowing our physicians to do what they do best.
  • Provide telemedicine services so that a specialist in Billings can support a pediatric case hundreds of miles away.
  • Ensure that all children in the region receive the well-care they need.
  • Provide education to parents and teachers to prevent and treat everyday injuries.
  • Create a forum for the brightest medical minds in our state to work together to heal our children.
  • Sponsor clinical research focused on key pediatric health issues.
  • Provide ongoing medical education to healthcare providers across the state.

MAKE A LASTING COMMITMENT This dream can only be accomplished by making a lasting commitment to our children, in partnership with philanthropists, hospitals and medical professionals throughout the region.
